Seashells & Containers

Standard

Sunday morning estate sales are the best. Some late morning casual browsing with no pressure from the early birds. Honestly I thought all the good stuff would be taken, but I got lucky and found some small items for $3.

Can’t beat all the shells in this cute wicker container. Plus after making my hanging planters, I’ve been searching for a planter hanger bracket. The packaging is amazingly retro – I almost didn’t want to open it.

My next project will be to fix the missing wooden veneer on the inlaid pearl box. Wish me luck!

Happy Hunting!

The Candle & Fishbowl

The Candle & Fishbowl

With all the yard sales lately, I have acquired a bunch of random stuff like this candle & fishbowl.

They were both missing something, so I attempted to combine them.

It’s not too bad – a bit earthy & funky, but perhaps I will come up with another combo when my air plants come in. It’s always fun to come up new combinations whether it’s rearranging the living room or something small like this quick project.

Happy Thrifting & DIY-ing!

Transformation – odd birdcage to multiple planters

Standard

Hi Everyone – it’s been a while! Today I bring you a story of a birdcage. I found this funny shaped one at a garage sale a few years ago and in all that time I have tried to find a purpose for it. I tried storing books or having it as something pretty to look at above my kitchen cabinets. Nothing ever clicked. Then I really looked at the shape of this thing and thought “this would make great planters – I just need to break it apart”. So I did! and it’s got a purpose now.  It just needs some hanging planter liner and rope. I can’t wait to get some flowers in these beautiful planters and show you the final product! Cheers.   ~K

(Sorry for the crappy picture – overhead lighting is the worst)

Wow! It’s been a year. Now back to yard sales and gardening!

Hi Everyone,

I can’t believe it but it has been a whole year since I posted! Time flies! School has kept me really busy and away from all the amazing yard sales and flea markets. Luckily, I had a chance this past weekend and found a few random pieces for my apartment. Yard sales are great places to find simple or, in this case, unique frames.

They are also good places to find handbags! This tote has been great for work and my internship. It has enough room for all the essentials plus a notebook, tablet and water for days out in the field.

I also had the chance to pick up a few plants and seeds to begin my garden. Don’t let living in an apartment stop you! Just get a few boxes and mount them on either your balcony or, in my case, a small deck.
